Message from President Nicole Brown
Sisters and Brothers, as we close out the 2024 school year, I hope this message finds you ready to begin a stress-free summer break. It feels like just yesterday we were starting the year, and now here we are; we endured and survived!
Reflecting on my six years as HCTA president, I am filled with gratitude and pride in our collective accomplishments, both big and small. Our union’s collective strength, driven by each one of you, has led to tangible and meaningful change for us all. The Officers and I sincerely appreciate your trust and support as we march forward. I want to express my gratitude for your hard work and resilience. Whether you are finishing your first year, in the middle of your career, or your final year, I hope you feel proud of all we have accomplished together. The world is better today for Hempstead students because of you. It is through your dedication and unity that we have been able to create a supportive and thriving educational community. We are stronger together, and nothing can be accomplished without our collective voice. With your participation, I know our union will remain strong.
To our Executive Board: Officers, Building Representatives, and Committee Chairpersons, a heartfelt thank you for upholding our union's values and standing by our members, students, and the Hempstead community. Your dedication fortifies our union.
Join me in congratulating our esteemed retirees for their years of exceptional service and accomplishments. Your contributions to our union and students' success are deeply appreciated. Congratulations to those of you with children moving up or graduating high school, as well as the Hempstead High School Class of 2024! Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors. Special thanks to Ms. Alexis Jovel and the HCTA Social Committee for planning a phenomenal End of Year party at Jericho Terrace and to Mr. Gary Battle for providing us with amazing photographs.
I remain optimistic about our union’s future. We have the strength and capacity to meet the challenges ahead. Our focus for the upcoming year includes preparing for another round of contract negotiations, drafting a new APPR plan, and boosting member engagement. United as a strong union, we will ensure all educators and students have the support and resources they need to succeed. The Officers and I will continue meeting with you in your buildings in the fall to hear your ideas and concerns.
Warm wishes from Danielle, Joelle, Veronica, Monifa, and myself for a summer break filled with good health and well-deserved rest so we are refreshed and energized to continue shaping the lives of our students in August. Remember to check out Hempsteadteachers.org for updates and stay connected via our social media channels for union news and upcoming events.
With sincere appreciation and solidarity.
Nicole J. Brown
