A Message from President Nicole Brown

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

I am very excited to announce that our Executive Board has decided to invest in our union's communications. We have a series of new communication tools planned to keep you informed and engaged. The first is this professional e-newsletter we are calling One Voice.

One Voice will be sent to you on a regular basis with legislative and political news that affects students, educators, and public schools, bargaining updates, community events, professional development opportunities and upcoming social outings. We have retained the UCOMM Media Group to assist us in this endeavor. UCOMM works with 30+ local unions and labor councils in the Northeast including Farmingdale Federation of Teachers, Levittown United Teachers, West Islip Teachers Association, the Long Island Federation of Labor, and Long Island Teachers just to name a few. Working with our leadership team, UCOMM is building a new mobile-friendly website with photo and video galleries, social network sharing options, news feeds and important upcoming event listings. We are also developing an app-like mobile shortcut so you can stay connected with your union when on the go. In the meantime, spread the word to your HCTA colleagues who did not receive this email. HCTA members can sign up by emailing our secretary, Veronica Jimenez at veronicahcta@gmail.com.

You are the superheroes of this pandemic. Thank you for your dedication to the students and families of Hempstead Public Schools. Although it was overwhelming, we can reflect on the successes and difficulties of this past year to help us prepare for the upcoming school year; from supporting students to close the learning gap to ending our 8-year battle for a fair contract. Together, we can overcome these and any other challenges the new year may bring.
