Caring for siblings Added to Paid Family Leave Law
Early this month, Governor Hochul signed legislation supported by NYSUT which expands New York’s Paid Family Leave law to allow caring for siblings with a serious health condition.
The current law, which was signed in 2016 and was a part of NYSUT’s legislative agenda for many years, neglected to include siblings in the list of family members covered by the provision. This change, which takes effect in 2023, adds biological, adopted, step and half siblings to the existing list of family members.
